چکیده

Vibrio splendidus LGP32 is an oyster pathogen associated with the summer mortality syndrome that dramatically affects the production of Crassostrea gigas oysters worldwide (Gay et al., 2004; Saulnier et al., 2010). We have recently shown that the outer membrane protein OmpU is required for the virulence of V. splendidus in oysters (Duperthuy et al., 2010). In order to better understand the role of OmpU in the host-pathogen interaction, we have constructed green fluorescent protein (GFP)-labeled variants of the wild-type and ΔompU V. splendidus and studied their fate in vivo and in vitro.

Use of OmpU porins for attachment and invasion of Crassostrea gigas immune cells by the oyster pathogen Vibrio splendidus.

OmpU porins are increasingly recognized as key determinants of pathogenic host Vibrio interactions. Although mechanisms remain incompletely understood, various species, including the human pathogen Vibrio cholera, require OmpU for host colonization and virulence. We have shown previously that OmpU is essential for virulence in the oyster pathogen Vibrio splendidus LGP32. Here, we showed that V....

Stress and stress-induced neuroendocrine changes increase the susceptibility of juvenile oysters (Crassostrea gigas) to Vibrio splendidus.

Oysters are permanently exposed to various microbes, and their defense system is continuously solicited to prevent accumulation of invading and pathogenic organisms. Therefore, impairment of the animal's defense system usually results in mass mortalities in cultured oyster stocks or increased bacterial loads in food products intended for human consumption. In the present study, experiments were...

Immune response in Lutjanus erythropterus induced by the major outer membrane protein (OmpU) of Vibrio alginolyticus.

The outer membrane proteins (OMPs) of the marine aquatic animal pathogen Vibrio alginolyticus play an important role in the virulence of the bacterium and are potential candidates for vaccine development. In this study, the major 35.6 kDa OMP of V. alginolyticus was isolated by gel excision from the crude OMP fraction from V. alginolyticus. The sequence of the first 27 amino acid residues from ...

Vibrio splendidus biovar II as the causative agent of bacillary necrosis of Japanese oyster Crassostrea gigas larvae.

Recurrent outbreaks of a disease leading to mass mortalities in an oyster (Crassostrea gigas) hatchery located in western Japan were investigated. The disease occurred regularly in 2- to 8-d-old larvae and has been experimentally controlled in the hatchery by treating the larval rearing water with streptomycin, without ascertaining the etiological agent. The signs of the disease and the course ...

Crystal structure of the outer membrane protein OmpU from Vibrio cholerae at 2.2 Å resolution

Vibrio cholerae causes a severe disease that kills thousands of people annually. The outer membrane protein OmpU is the most abundant outer membrane protein in V. cholerae, and has been identified as an important virulence factor that is involved in host-cell interaction and recognition, as well as being critical for the survival of the pathogenic V. cholerae in the host body and in harsh envir...
